The Samsung Galaxy XR is finally official, and that includes pricing. The Samsung Galaxy XR price is not going to be cheap, as we expected, but it is much cheaper than its best competitor – the Apple Vision Pro.
Samsung Galaxy XR price is $1,799. Which is quite a bit of money, but it is nearly half of what the Vision Pro costs, and it’s still cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Unfortunately, the controllers are not included at this price. Though the controllers are not needed to have a good experience with the Galaxy XR. During my demo last week, we did not use any controllers, and even sitting on a couch, the experience was quite good. There are cameras all over the headset that work really well for tracking hand movement.
With the Galaxy XR, you are doing a lot of pinching and dragging to navigate through the OS, which is Android XR. So, having good hand tracking is really important here.
Battery life on the Galaxy XR isn’t that great, we’re looking at two to two and a half hours of usage with the battery pack attached. However, Galaxy XR is far lighter than what the Apple Vision Pro weighs in at. Which has been a big complaint for Apple Vision Pro users, as that headset is far to heavy to be comfortable for long periods of time.
The Galaxy XR is available to purchase today for $1,799 from Samsung’s website. It does come in one storage variant which is 256GB, that should be plenty for storing a load of apps. All of Google’s apps are available for Android XR, as well as a number of Samsung’s. In fact, all Android apps work on Android XR, those that have been optimized for Android XR are going to perform much better on Galaxy XR, of course.
