The next consoles from Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox brands, rumored to be the PS6 and “Xbox Magnus,” have had their full specs leaked recently, and it’s shaping up to be a win for the next Xbox console in terms of performance. It’s worth noting that performance isn’t everything, and although important, the overall experience is what really matters in the long run. The Xbox Series X, for example, was supposed to have a performance advantage over the PS5, yet the PS5 far outsold the Xbox Series X. Still, it bodes well for Microsoft that its next console could come out on top in the performance department. Especially given the air around the company and the Xbox brand as of late.
The price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, not to mention the Series X in several regions, has left consumers and fans of the Xbox brand a little perturbed. Understandably so. Basically, Xbox needs a win here. Perhaps the Xbox Magnus performance is that win, or at least part of it.
Xbox Magnus specs point to a performance advantage over the PS6
We’re not talking about a massive performance gap, but it is a performance gap, and not just for a few games. According to KeplerL2 on NeoGAF (spotted by Wccftech), the Xbox Magnus console will have more CPU cores, more compute units, higher CPU and GPU frequencies, more render output units, and more memory and cache than the PS6. All of that together will likely result in better performance in all games that are available on both consoles.
In other words, if you want the best-performing console in all next-generation games, it seems that the next Xbox may be it. That being said, both consoles are likely to perform well. And ultimately, which one suits you best might come down to the games that are available. Sony always comes out with quite a few exclusives that gamers love.
In addition to the above details, it’s mentioned that the PS6 will have 30GB of RAM compared to the 36GB in Xbox Magnus, while the PlayStation handheld will have 24GB. All of these figures are significant by current standards. At the end of the day, though, these are still just leaked specs. While likely accurate, there’s no confirmation that this is what can be expected from the final products when they launch.
