HONOR has just announced its new flagship smartphones, the Magic8 series. Do note that the devices launched in China, the global launch will occur later on. HONOR says that these are its first “self-evolving AI smartphones.”
The company added that these two smartphones debut the “most advanced generation of HONOR’s YOYO Agent, breakthrough AI camera capabilities, and industry-leading performance.”
The HONOR Magic8 series is official, and it’s defined by “three core pillars”
HONOR says that the Magic8 series is defined by “three core pillars”. Those pillars are: hardware performance, system interaction, and application ecosystem.
AI was once again a major talking point for the company. The company says that HONOR AI boasts automatic execution capabilities across more than 3,000 scenarios. As an explanation, HONOR said: “This means that whether handling routine daily tasks (e.g., “Find all my screenshots and delete the blurry ones”) or managing complex professional assignments (e.g., “Summarize this week’s work expenses and email them to my manager”), the YOYO Agent can be activated in the appropriate context to automatically complete a series of operations, effectively liberating users from repetitive manual actions.”
HONOR added the ‘AI Button’
These two smartphones also have the all-new AI Button, which makes the YOYO assistant instantly accessible. That button is customizable, but by default, long-pressing it activates the YOYO Video Call. A double-click activates the camera shutter.
HONOR also talked about the advancements in its AiMAGE Camera System, for which it claims that it’s “delivering unprecedented clarity, stability, and creative control powered by next-generation AI.”
The HONOR Magic8 Pro does take precedence here, as it has a more powerful camera setup than the Magic8. In fact, let’s talk more about the Magic8 Pro, as HONOR was kind enough to send us all the details. Let’s kick things off with the camera setup, as that’s one of its main selling points.
The HONOR Magic8 Pro is the flagship model
The phone is equipped with a powerful triple camera setup. A 50-megapixel main camera. A 1/1.3-inch camera sensor is used here, along with an f/1.6 aperture lens. OIS is also a part of the offering.
The second camera on the back is a powerful 200-megapixel periscope telephoto unit. That one uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor size and an f/2.6 aperture lens. 3.7x optical zoom is on offer here, and OIS is supported.
The third camera on the back is a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit. That camera has an f/2.0 aperture lens and offers a 122-degree FoV. This one is also used for macro photography. A 50-megapixel snapper is included on the front, along with a 3D Depth Camera for advanced facial scanning.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 fuels both smartphones
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor fuels the HONOR Magic8 Pro. The device comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, at least it will in Europe. Speaking of China-EU differences, the Chinese model has a 7,100mAh battery, while the EU version will include a 6,270mAh. That’s a major difference, and an unwanted one, but there you go.
The phone supports 100W wired and 80W wireless HONOR SuperCharge charging. It also has a 6.71-inch 2808 x 1256 LTPO OLED display. That panel has an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and its brightness can technically go up to a whopping 6,000 nits.
This smartphone is also IP68/IP69/IP69K certified for water and dust resistance. The HONOR Magic8 Pro measures 161.15 x 75 x 8.4mm, and it weighs 213 grams. The device comes in Black, Sky Cyan, and Sunrise Gold colors.
The ‘Magic Color’ feature debuts with the Magic8 series
Now, it’s also worth noting that the Magic8 series debuts ‘Magic Color’, which is the industry’s first AI-powered color engine, HONOR says. The regular Magic8 has this feature too, and it’s also fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, that much we do know. Android 16 comes pre-installed on both phones with MagicOS 10 skin.
