There is no doubt that AI is going to play a huge role in our lives. We’re already seeing it in action, and yes, there are going to be some jobs whose roles will be threatened by AI. But will all jobs and industries be affected? Speaking during the Bloomberg Screentime conference, Instagram head Adam Mosseri addressed concerns that content creators such as MrBeast have about AI.
Instagram head responds to MrBeast AI concerns
In a recent post on Threads, MrBeast spoke up about how AI are creating videos as good as normal ones. “When AI videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to YouTube and how it will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living.. scary times.”
However, Instagram head Adam Mosseri begged to differ in response to MrBeast’s AI fears. Instead, he suggested that the use of AI could allow creators to do more and make better content. “If you take a big step back, what the internet did, among other things, was allow almost anyone to become a publisher by reducing the cost of distributing content to essentially zero.”
He also suggests that the use of generative AIs could allow creators to further reduce their costs. MrBeast is actually a prime example of how much some creators spend to create their videos. The YouTuber is known for his elaborate videos and sets. While his videos generate millions of views and bring in millions in revenue, producing them does not come cheap. In an interview last year with Time Magazine, he can shoot as much as 12,000 hours of footage just to make a single 15 minute clip.
Obviously, not everyone has the time, resources, or personnel to replicate such a video. And that’s where AI comes in.
Some are already using AI
Mosseri adds that there is already a lot of “hybrid” content on social media these days. While we typically associate AI with generative AI, not everyone uses AI for those reasons. For instance, Mosseri says that some might use AI tools to help with color correction and filters. Plus, some might use AI to help generate new video ideas, tidy up scripts, and more.
Also, not every video might be a good candidate for AI. For example, filming travel vlogs or food vlogs, no one wants to see what a place might look like or how a food might taste using AI. In any case, if the arrival of generative AI is a way to force creators to become more creative, is that really a bad thing?
