Still without a successor, the S550 GT500 is a legendary muscle car
- Used values for the GT500 exceed the original MSRP in many cases
- This Shadow Black example has the desirable Carbon Fiber Track Pack
- Almost entirely stock, bidding ends on October 14
A 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has just come up for auction on Cars & Bids. This was the most hardcore version of the S550 Mustang to be produced, and the newer S650 Mustang still doesn’t have anything to match the drama of the GT500—at least, not yet.
The auction for this Shadow Black Shelby ends on October 14, so there’s still plenty of time to place your bid. To make sure you aren’t overspending, we’ll take a look at what this particular Mustang has sold for on the used market recently, as well as what other examples of the Shelby are selling for.

Under the hood of this predator is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8. Not only does it make a delightful sound, but it produces 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and rear-wheel drive complete the powertrain, and if you’re not careful, you’ll burn through tires at a startlingly rapid rate.
A 0-60 mph time of around 3.5 seconds is possible, outclassing most modern gas-powered coupes, although Dodge’s outgoing Challenger was the ultimate menace in a straight line.
The example seen here has covered just 19,800 miles and has a clean title and accident-free CarFax report. It’s finished in Shadow Black over an Ebony leather interior. Notable features include the Carbon Fiber Track Pack (including 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, Recaro seats, and a carbon fiber rear wing) and the Technology Package (includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system). This nearly stock Shelby has an SPE Motorsport engine oil catch can, but it’s otherwise in original form.
Not only is the Shelby GT500 devastatingly quick from one traffic light to the next, but it’s also a magnificent track weapon.Â
What Should You Pay?
2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
As the window sticker shows, this Shelby GT500 started at $70,300 when new. However, a few options (most notably, the $18,500 Carbon Fiber Track Pack), meant that this well-specced example was worth an eye-watering $94,400.
Given its lofty position as the flagship S550, the increasing rarity of V8-powered muscle cars, and the fact that there isn’t yet a replacement, it’s no surprise to see that the Shelby GT500 still commands high prices in 2025. According to Kelley Blue Book, the resale value of a 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is $65,372 in 2025. That’s a conservative figure, based on current listings of the hot Ford.

All these models have covered fewer miles than the Shadow Black example seen here, but not all have the Carbon Fiber Track Pack. Given these listings, the GT500 on Cars & Bids could be considered a good deal for anything up to $80k. You get the desirable extras and a menacing black look, plus one of the all-time great engines.
Admittedly, $80k could get you a brand-new Mustang Dark Horse Premium with 500 hp, a few extras, and the Tremec six-speed manual. It’s more modern and plenty quick, but it just doesn’t have the street cred and performance of the older GT500.
