Recently, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT will allow users to run apps directly in their conversations. The good news is that if you’re a Spotify user, it looks like you’ll be able to use ChatGPT to help put together playlists without having to leave the app.Â
Spotify users can use ChatGPT to create playlists
The process is pretty simple and straightforward. All users need to do is connect their Spotify account to ChatGPT. After which, users can then ask ChatGPT questions like they normally would, whether it be song recommendations, finding artists, and so on, and then you can even ask it to create a playlist for you.
The best part is that Spotify is not limiting this feature to its paid Premium customers. According to Spotify, “Free users will be able to source from Spotify’s catalog of playlists already available on the app, such as Discover Weekly and New Music Friday. Premium users can take it a step further by having Spotify turn their more elaborate prompts into a fresh and fully personalized selection of tracks.“
But what about ChatGPT users? Do they need a ChatGPT Plus or Pro account? Nope. According to Spotify, users on the free ChatGPT plan can take advantage of this feature as well.
Expanding the use of AI
OpenAI’s Apps SDK is actually a great example of integrating more AI into our lives and the apps we use. Right now, AI models kind of exist in their own vacuum. Some AI models like ChatGPT and Claude allow users to connect to external services like Canva. However, OpenAI’s Apps SDK takes that experience even further.
If you missed our previous coverage, in addition to Spotify, users can connect to other apps and services like Zillow. This means that you can even use ChatGPT to search for homes for sale or rent. There is also support from travel platforms like Booking.com and Expedia, Figma, and so on.
Basically, it sounds like ChatGPT wants to be your one-stop shop for everything. This could cause some potential disruption over at Google, which previously more or less did the same things. We’re already seeing more users turn to AI models for search, so why not other services too, right?
