While models like the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class are premium sedans that carry a bit of status with them, they are pretty expensive given that they are essentially only entry-level compact sedans. Both will set you back around $50k for even the cheapest variants, which is a huge amount of money given their relative lack of size and luxury. Their value starts to look even worse when you bear in mind the kinds of used bargains you can get for the same price.
