We’ve had cars that produce around 1,000 horsepower since at least a century ago, when the 1925 Sunbeam 1000 Mystery, aka, the Slug, became the first car to pass 200 miles per hour. The actual power output for the car was closer to 900 hp, but an even thousand looks better painted on the side of the car. But if we’re talking about 1,000 hp in the 20th Century, we’re talking about one-offs and limited models. Production cars that produce this kind of power are another matter entirely.
