The United States can’t compete with the cheap vehicles coming out of China, so it put a 100% tariff on them to protect American automakers. Those tariffs appear to be working, as only a handful of Chinese vehicles are currently on sale here under familiar brand names such as Buick, Lincoln, Polestar, and Volvo. If any Chinese automaker wanted to sell a car in the US, it would be twice as expensive by the time it hit a dealership lot. But would that really stop all of their cars from selling?
