Making mountain life more affordable and attainable is a big part of my mission. When a company gets it right, I’m the first to celebrate. So, let’s party! In the heart of Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, a small but mighty neighborhood is making a big impact. Tiny Town, the latest housing initiative from Aspen One, officially opened its doors this spring—welcoming employees into a thoughtfully designed community of 95 tiny homes. This milestone marks the company’s largest housing development to date and a turning point in the conversation around sustainable, year-round living in mountain towns.
Built on the former Aspen-Basalt Campground site, Tiny Town offers 54 of its units to full-time, year-round Aspen One employees, providing much-needed housing stability in a region where affordable accommodations are increasingly difficult to find. Designed with both function and longevity in mind, these compact homes represent more than just shelter—they are part of a broader movement to support the people who make resort towns thrive.

Aspen One has committed millions of dollars toward addressing housing and childcare pressures across its resort communities—from Snowmass to Ketchum to Mammoth. The Tiny Town development reflects a new era of creative thinking, using prefabricated construction methods and innovative planning to scale solutions more quickly. It’s not just talk and planning–it’s actually happening. Years ago I interviews Margo Wade at Sugarbush Resort about two planned developments–four years later there’s been no earth moved or beds opened. Aspen is showing us all what is possible.
Tiny Town is just one piece of a larger strategy. Additional developments, including The SHOP in Snowmass and the expansive EJ Crossing neighborhood, are in motion to serve even more employees and families. Combined with partnerships like Tenants for Turns—which incentivizes locals to rent available units in exchange for ski passes—and major investments in mobile home park preservation, Aspen One’s approach is layered, local, and long-term and getting affordable housing to more than a thousand of their team members.

Housing in resort communities is not just a policy issue—it’s a personal one, deeply felt by the individuals who work on the mountains, in the hotels, and behind the scenes every day. That’s why Ski Moms, the podcast powered by Momtrends, recently invited Aspen One’s Senior Vice President of Hospitality People + Culture, Heather Henry, to join the show. In the episode “Behind the Lift: Aspen’s Approach to Employee Housing”, Henry shares how Aspen One is tackling one of the biggest challenges in mountain town sustainability—and why Tiny Town is such a meaningful milestone.

The Ski Moms Podcast, hosted by Nicole Feliciano and Sarah Butler, brings industry experts, athlete moms, and community leaders into conversation on topics that matter to families who love the outdoors. From lift line tips to deeper dives into resort town realities, the podcast offers an insider’s lens on the intersection of parenting, lifestyle, and winter sports culture.
Looking Ahead
Tiny Town is more than a name—it’s a symbol of what’s possible when commitment meets creativity. As Aspen One continues its investment in employee wellbeing and community resilience, developments like Tiny Town prove that small-scale housing can have a wide-reaching impact. For mountain communities to thrive year-round, it takes more than powder days and picturesque views—it takes people. And those people need places to call home.
At Momtrends, we’ll be following this conversation closely, from housing innovations to policy shifts, and sharing the stories that shape life on—and off—the slopes.
