Samsung has announced its first tri-fold handset quite recently. The Galaxy Z TriFold is its name, and now an early hands-on video with the device has surfaced online. We’ve covered its launch quite recently.
A hands-on video with the Galaxy Z TriFold is now on YouTube
In any case, this video comes from Mrwhosetheboss, who published it on YouTube. The video itself has a duration of 13 minutes, and it will give you a great look at this phone. It will show you how it folds, show how its UI works, compare it with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and more.
As you’ll see early on in the video, this handset is notably different than Huawei’s tri-fold offering. It has the so-called ‘G shape’ folding style (also known as ‘U shape’), compared to Huawei’s ‘Z shape’ folding style. These two are notably different, actually.
It is notably different than Huawei’s tri-fold handsets
While the Huawei Mate XT and Mate XTs offer three screen sizes and have only one display, the Galaxy Z TriFold has two displays and only two layouts you can use. You can use it fully folded (6.5-inch display), or fully extended (10.1-inch display).
This has the benefit of protecting the display better, as when it’s folded, a part of the display does not stick out on the side. The downside is that you don’t have that middle-of-the-ground display size to use, plus there’s always a cover display sitting on the back, so you have to be careful with that too.
This video also shows you what exactly is inside the box, though we already talked about that. You do get a charger and a case on the inside. Samsung no longer includes chargers, so this is a surprise.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold is only 3.9mm thick when unfolded
The Galaxy Z TriFold is only 3.9mm thick when fully unfolded, and you can see just how thin that is in the video. When folded, you’re dealing with a 12.9mm thick device. That’s not extremely thick, not at all, but notably thicker than modern foldables, that’s for sure.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is notably thinner than that, but if you’ve used the Galaxy Z Fold 6, you’ll be right at home. Why? Well, because that regular foldable is 12.1mm thick. The TriFold is not that much thicker, it is notably heavier at 309 grams, though.
This smartphone launched in Korea, but it’s coming in China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the US. It is expected to land in the US in the first quarter of next year.
