Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone is now one step closer to launch. The phone has just been certified by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), signaling that the phone’s launch event is not far off at this point.
Samsung’s first tri-fold phone has been certified and will launch soon
The phone appeared under the model number SM-F968B/DS. This version seems to have dual SIM support, by the way. It is also noted that Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and UWB are all supported. That’s not surprising at all. No additional details have been revealed, however.
This tri-fold smartphone was expected to arrive at the end of October or in the initial days of November, but that did not happen. Samsung did show it off during the APEC 2025 in South Korea, though. It was placed behind glass, but still.
The company did confirm that this smartphone will become official before the end of the year. Meaning we’ll get a proper launch for it in 2025. Chances are it will launch in Korea first, though.
This device will have a much narrower availability than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Rumors are claiming that it’s coming to South Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE. Bluetooth SIG did suggest that it may launch in the US as well, and possibly even in some European markets.
Samsung will be quite careful when it comes to the production of this device
Still, nothing has been confirmed, and based on a recent report, Samsung plans to manufacture only 20,000-30,000 units, at least initially. The company could end up scaling up production if the phone proves to be popular enough, who knows.
Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone is expected to cost around $3,000 once it launches. Needless to say, it will be quite expensive, which is probably why Samsung is so careful regarding launch markets and initial production scale.
This handset will have some competition in the market once it arrives. Huawei announced two tri-fold smartphones thus far, the Mate XT and Mate XTs. Considering Huawei’s challenges with the US ban, Samsung will certainly have an easier job than it would usually have. Those are the only tri-fold smartphones currently available in the market, and their availability is quite limited.
