A while ago, foldable phones were clearly a niche market. While it’s true that “traditional” handsets remain the preferred choice for most, the foldable form factor is becoming increasingly common. Samsung, a pioneer in the segment, wants to establish these devices in the mainstream and is taking steps in that direction. A new report reveals the company’s internal plans for 2026, highlighting an aggressive sales target for the next generation of its flexible phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
Samsung sales target for Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 leaked
As reported by The Bell, Samsung has set a combined sales goal of approximately 6.7 million units for the new foldables. This ambitious figure represents a planned growth of around 10% compared to the sales performance of their predecessors. The new commitment is particularly notable when contrasted with the sales estimate for the bar-type Galaxy S26. According to a recent tip, the company expects to sell around 36 million S26 units. This makes the Z Fold and Z Flip lines the strategic growth engine for the coming year.
The success of this potential 10% growth target hinges heavily on the clamshell model. Reports indicate that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to drive a proportionally larger sales increase than the Z Fold 8. Samsung is betting that the Z Flip will be the key to expanding the overall foldable market and securing greater market share.
Samsung wants another “wow factor” with the Z Flip 8
To ensure the Z Flip 8 lives up to these high sales expectations, Samsung is preparing significant hardware changes. The focus is squarely on improving the phone’s form factor. The firm aims for dramatic reductions in both thickness and weight. While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 only saw minor reductions in size, the Z Flip 8 is reportedly pushing for a decrease of more than 10% in both categories. This change wants to give consumers the same “dramatically different feel” that this year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 delivered.
There is a reason behind this aggressive sales push and focus on improvements: competition. Everything indicates that Apple will enter the foldable market next year. So, Samsung is treating the Z Flip 8’s redesign as a high-stakes move to cement its leadership. The South Korean giant is determined to strengthen its competitive edge and grow the market before a major competitor arrives to potentially chip away at its sales volume.
