If we had a nickel for every time someone said “I really like European hatchbacks, but I wish they made one that looked kinda like a Subaru Forester, without being remotely off-road capable,” we wouldn’t have enough change in our pocket to buy a Coke from the vending machine. But Rover was apparently not the kind of brand to let a little thing like a lack of market demand stop them from pursuing a weird idea, or, at least, that’s what the existence of the Rover Streetwise would seem to imply.
