Quick Share is Google’s utility tool, which allows users to send and receive files from devices located nearby. Earlier this month, Google introduced a redesign that brings a new layout. This replaces the old bottom sheet. 9to5Google reports that the new Quick Share’s fullscreen interface for Android is rolling out more widely, offering a more guided experience. This change also makes it feel less like a background process.
Quick Share’s fullscreen redesign is more broadly available
When you tap on Quick Share from Quick Settings Tile, system Share sheet, or shortcut in File by Google, it opens a new two-tab layout with M3 Expressive design elements. You’ll see two buttons at the bottom: Send and Receive. If no media is selected to transfer, the page takes you directly to the “Receive” tab, highlighting your device name. This makes your device “Temporarily visible to everyone” nearby.
There is a new progress indicator that keeps you updated on the transfer. Once the recipient receives the file, there’s a shortcut to “View downloads” and open Google Photos.
The new UI seems to be a server-side update
The new “Send” tab gets its own file picker. This lets you select and preview files of different types at once. There are cards for “Send to your devices” and “Send to nearby devices” that show the devices list as a grid. You also get a QR button in the corner for fast pairing.
The Quick Share settings page, which also gets M3 Expressive design, includes the Receive and Send buttons. The visibility settings include contacts, your own devices, or everyone for 10-minute options. These changes make it clear that Google intends to make Quick Share more like a full-blown app instead of a utility tool.
The Quick Share fullscreen redesign is reportedly appearing on more Android phones, but it seems to be a server-side update, with Google Play Services version 25.37.31 or newer.
