Samsung’s Now Brief feature aims to give Galaxy users a personalized digest of information. However, it has faced common criticism since its launch: its media recommendations have been generic and often unhelpful. That is, they rarely reflect their current viewing and listening habits. Fortunately, it looks like Samsung noticed the feedback and is implementing a major fix in the upcoming One UI 8.5 update to make Now Brief media recommendations—especially from YouTube and Spotify—actually relevant.
Recently spotted firmware code reveals hints at how Samsung plans to inject real personalization into the feature, making Now Brief far more useful to daily users.
One UI 8.5 adds YouTube personalization: Better Now Brief recommendations
The most significant change targets YouTube, which has been a particular pain point. To move beyond generic clips, the Now Brief is preparing to integrate directly with your personal data. Code strings show that the feature will soon request permission to track your YouTube likes. By granting this access, your recommendations will finally become tailored. So, Now Brief will focus on videos that truly match your interests. Whether it is content related to your favorite sports teams or videos tied to an upcoming trip you’ve planned, One UI 8.5 will make it relevant to you (reported by Android Authority).
Smarter Spotify playlists on Now Brief
Spotify recommendations are also getting a big intelligence upgrade. Instead of random lists, the Now Brief will design its suggestions around context. This will make them perfectly timed for your day, week, or even the weather.
The code indicates that the feature will suggest playlists based on:
- Time and Day: Suggestions optimized for the start of the week, the end of the week, or nighttime listening.
- Events and Seasons: Playlists tied to milestones like your birthday week or the New Year, as well as seasonal suggestions for a rainy or snowy day.
- Personal Habits: Recommendations that highlight the songs you’ve streamed the most over the past year.
Additionally, One UI 8.5 appears to be enhancing the overall utility of Now Brief by adding smart photo-sharing recommendations. The feature will use your Gallery app to suggest sharing images with specific contacts based on the people found in the photos.
Recent reports suggest that Samsung will launch the One UI 8.5 beta program on December 8th. It’s possible we’ll see some of these features already implemented in the first testing build. Let’s hope official confirmation from the company arrives soon.
