Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are weighing in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement, with one volunteering to officiate and another jesting that President Trump deserves some credit for the star-studded nuptials news.
The “Love Story” singer and Kansas City Chiefs tight end announced their engagement Tuesday after two years of dating with a message posted on both of their Instagram pages saying, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The couple, both 35, ignited an inferno of headlines with the news, with some lawmakers joining in on the intense matrimony reaction on social media.
“Travis is about to get two rings in one year. Congratulations to the lucky couple,” Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said.
“Happy to do the ceremony — just let me know,” Cleaver wrote on the social platform X.Â
Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) offered his congratulations with a mention of President Trump, who’s been critical of Swift over the years.
“President Trump campaigned on making it easier to start families and he’s delivered once again. Congrats, Travis and Taylor!” Banks said.Â
Trump, asked by a journalist Tuesday to give his reaction to Swift and Kelce’s engagement, complimented the pair and wished them “a lot of luck.”
Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández took a dig at Republicans with her engagement comment.
“Wow, look at her ring. Taylor always loves the hidden messages!” the New Mexico Democrat said, sharing an altered image zoomed in on Swift’s engagement ring, which had the words “Republicans decimated Medicaid” written in tiny letters.Â
