In a surprising development, Instagram may soon limit the number of hashtags one can use in a post. People have started noticing that they are unable to add more than three hashtags to a post. Hashtags are an easy means to make your posts reach a wider audience, while also helping to reach that wider audience more quickly. Limiting the hashtags count means you’re basically undercutting the full potential of a post.
Instagram may be testing a three-hashtag limit for posts
Until now, Instagram has reportedly allowed users to add up to 30 hashtags to their posts. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. DroidApp reports that multiple users are reportedly seeing a new restriction, where they are only able to include up to three hashtags. A notification is apparently appearing while adding a hashtag, saying that only three hashtags are allowed.
If you love spamming your posts with multiple hashtags, that may be changing down the road. Though this looks like a weird move, few believe that this should help users find high-quality content. But for content creators, their posts could be less discoverable.Â

It’s not widely rolling out currently
The Meta-owned platform hasn’t officially announced this move, and not everyone seems to have it yet. It’s possible this could either be a new feature that’s in the process of testing and will be official in the near future, or just an experiment with select users, and based on the outcome, the company will decide its fate.
Besides hashtags, the tech giant is also working on another major improvement. This will reportedly allow users to tailor their algorithm-based recommendations by selecting or removing topics of interest. This apparently will begin with Reels on the app and later expand to the Explore page. Back in October, Instagram introduced new AI-powered image editing tools, allowing them to restyle their Stories.
