- Hyundai sales climbed 19% last month to set an all-time record for April.
- The Korean brand was boosted by strong demand for the Tucson and Santa Fe.
- EV sales were down slightly, but the 2026 Ioniq 9 will arrive at dealers shortly.
It looks like Americans were in the mood to buy last month, and Hyundai certainly made the most of it. The company had its best April on record, marking another solid month in an already strong year. Sales jumped 19% from 2024 to an impressive 81,503 units. This helped to propel the company to their seventh consecutive month of setting best-ever total sales.

The Tucson was the big winner in April as sales soared 41% to 22,054 units. It was followed by the Elantra, which found 13,125 buyers for a 30% increase compared to last year. Rounding out the podium was the Santa Fe, which was up 28% as dealers moved 12,417 crossovers.
Hyundai said customers embraced their eco-friendly lineup as hybrid sales jumped 46%, while electrified vehicles were up 25%. However, EVs continued to struggle as the Ioniq 5 was off by 8%, while the Ioniq 6 was down 12%.
There should be help on the horizon as the Ioniq 9 arrives this spring. Hyundai also recently unveiled the facelifted Ioniq 6 and redesigned Nexo in Korea.
Getting back to sales, most models were up. However, the Santa Cruz continues to struggle as it was down 16% last month. Customers only bought 2,494 compact pickups, which start at $28,750 before a $1,450 destination fee.
The model faces stiff competition from the updated Maverick, which begins at $25,693 thanks to Ford’s employee pricing for all program. Besides being cheaper, the Maverick features a hybrid powertrain that enables the truck to return 42 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 38 mpg combined. That annihilates the Santa Cruz’s rating of 25, 22, and 30.
