Huawei became the world’s first company to launch a commercial tri-fold smartphone last September with the Mate XT. The company already started developing the phone’s successor last year. Ahead of any official announcement, a handful of details about the upcoming Mate XT offering, including its processor, leaked earlier. Now, a tipster from China suggests that the Huawei Mate XT 2 could arrive with major design changes.
Huawei’s Mate XT 2 could be more “fashionable and beautiful” than its predecessor
According to the Weibo account Superdimensional, Huawei is considering launching the Mate XT 2 with major design changes. The phone will be more “fashionable and beautiful” than its predecessor. However, the source hasn’t revealed what kind of changes the new tri-fold smartphone will bring.
Furthermore, the tipster claims that Huawei will power the Mate XT 2 with the latest Kirin chip, allegedly dubbed the Kirin 9050 Pro. With the new SoC, the phone will outperform its predecessor.
The Mate XT already looks quite premium and luxurious
To recall, the Huawei Mate XT or Mate XT Ultimate Design sports a unique tri-fold architecture. It utilizes an advanced precision hinge system with dual mechanisms, which fold both inward and outward. When fully expanded, you can use the device as a 10.2-inch tablet, which is only 3.6mm thick at its slimmest profile.
Huawei has designed the Mate XT’s premium exterior utilizing a vegan leather back, gold accents, and a distinctive camera module. The phone already looks quite premium and luxurious.
The company also launched the Mate XTs last year with new colors and parallel line embossing on the rear panel to make it appear even more stylish than the first model. So it’ll be interesting to see what Huawei has up its sleeves for the design of the Mate XT 2. The company could introduce the new foldable in either September or October.
