Google started to roll out both a new Pixel Feature Drop and the November 2025 Android security update to its Pixel smartphones yesterday. We talked about both of those updates separately, even though they’re a part of the same update you’ll get. With that in mind, some of you probably noticed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 phones are not listed among the ones getting those updates. Just to be clear, the Pixel 7a is, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are not.
Google is still supporting the Pixel 6 & Pixel 7, but not monthly, it seems
What’s going on here? All those phones are still supposed to be supported by Google. Well, while they are all still supported, Google seems to be deprioritizing them, unfortunately. In other words, they may not get monthly updates from now on.
When asked if the Pixel 6 series will be getting updates less frequently, Google gave a rather vague answer. The company’s spokesperson said that supported devices will get security fixes, Pixel Drops, and the latest operating system versions for the entirety of their support timeline. In other words, no straight answer was given, which probably means… yes, the updates will be less frequent.
The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro did not get the July update. Then they received the August and September updates, but not the October or November updates. The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, on the other hand, are missing from the November update list.
All those smartphones are promised to get support for five years
Both of those smartphone series are promised five years of updates, though Google never guaranteed they’ll get those updates at the same time as other phones. So, the company didn’t break its promise, technically.
Many users are expecting the updates to arrive every month for every phone that was promised updates, but that won’t be happening, it seems. Older devices will be getting less frequent updates, it seems.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series devices are expected to get some features from the latest Pixel Feature Drop update, though they’ll have to wait a bit longer. It’s possible Google will push them out in December.
