Google is gatekeeping a slick new Google Maps feature, making it only available on the Pixel 10. This is actually part of the November Feature Drop for the Pixel, and it’s likely to be rolled out to other devices soon, but for now, it is exclusive to the Pixel 10 series.
This new feature is called Google Maps power-saving mode. As you likely know, if you’ve ever used Google Maps for navigation, it does take up a lot of battery. Which is expected, since it’s constantly using GPS, mobile data and the brightness is typically pretty high.
But Google has a fix, finally, for this. Well, not so much a fix, but an option to save some juice. The new Google Maps power-saving mode basically turns your navigation into a monochrome color scheme and minimizes the graphics that are being shown on the display. It still shows you everything you need, but in a much more simplistic UI.
This feature was just announced yesterday and started rolling out yesterday, so we’re unclear how much battery this feature is going to save. But we should find out over the next few weeks, as more and more people use it.

Google’s November Pixel Feature Drop surprisingly has a good amount of new features
Sometimes these Feature Drops have a lot of new features, and other times they have very few new toys to play with. November’s Feature Drop had quite a bit of changes coming to Pixel.
The Feature Drop also brought AI Remix, Scam Detection and some new Wicked themes. The update is now starting to roll out to compatible Pixel devices – which should be Pixel 6 and newer. The update is typically a staged one, so it might not roll out to everyone all at once. But you should get it within the next few days.
