Samsung appears to want to continue making everything thinner and thinner. After launching the thinner Galaxy S25 Edge this year, Samsung also launched the much thinner Galaxy Watch 8 series, and now the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is set to be even thinner next year.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 were both pretty big hits for Samsung this year, and it’s aiming to increase shipments by 10% for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Fold 8 next year. Samsung is aiming to sell around 6.7 million units of the two foldables, which is 10% higher than its target for 2025. For the Galaxy S26 series, it is aiming to ship around 36 million units for the year. Which is almost identical to the Galaxy S25 series goal.
Samsung is preparing for the launch of Apple’s first foldable
Here in the US, Samsung hasn’t had much competition for either foldable style. On the Fold side, there is the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the OnePlus Open which OnePlus decided not to bring a successor, leaving it to sister-brand OPPO. And on the flip side, it’s basically just Motorola with its Razr. But Motorola’s Razr is selling very well in North America.
Next year, however, Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable. And just like with any new Apple product, that is going to take the world by storm, and likely eat into a huge chunk of Samsung’s market share. So Samsung is appearing to prepare for that by getting more competitive and giving consumers what they want.
We already saw this happen this year with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung finally made the cover display wider, and the phone was also much thinner than its predecessors. Two huge things consumers had been wanting for years. Now, Samsung just needs to improve the cameras.
