Google and Amazon have launched their jointly developed multicloud networking service. The service is designed to help businesses manage the increasing connectivity demand amid frequent network outages. It allows customers to set up private high-speed links between the two companies’ cloud platforms in minutes rather than weeks.
Amazon and Google partners to launch multicloud networking service
The announcement comes shortly after a major AWS outage underscored the risk of network outages, especially for organizations. Amazon and Google say that the service combines AWS Interconnect multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect to create more seamless network interoperability. It reduces the time required to establish secure connections, and by doing so, the companies aim to give enterprises greater resilience during periods of heavy internet traffic.
The AWS outage that took place in October disrupted thousands of websites and their services across the world. Analytics firm Parametrix adds that tech outages may cause U.S. businesses hundreds of millions of dollars. This further reinforces the need for a stronger and reliable cloud network service.
The new cloud network service could change the tech landscape
AWS vice president of network services, Robert Kennedy, said, “The partnership marks a significant shift in how multicloud connectivity is delivered.” Rob Enns, who leads cloud networking at Google Cloud, adds in its statement that “The joint approach is intended to reduce technical friction for enterprises adopting hybrid strategies.”
Cloud service providers seem to be investing heavily in infrastructure to support soaring internet use. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google have each committed significant funding to ensure their networks can manage increasing data demands. The rise of Artificial Intelligence is the key reason behind the increasing demand. Amazon leads the market, generating strong third-quarter revenue of $33 billion, more than twice Google’s $15.16 billion. The new multicloud service positions both companies to strengthen their positions in the evolving market.
