Google currently boasts several powerful AI tools. The list includes Lens, Circle to Search, and the recently upgraded Gemini AI. All these functions are capable of analyzing what’s on your screen. Now, Google is taking a big step toward simplifying the on-screen search experience by integrating the best part of Circle to Search directly into the Gemini overlay.
Google Gemini gets Circle to Search
This new feature is now starting to appear to some users (reported by Android Authority). The process is surprisingly simple and cuts down on redundant steps. If you see something interesting on your screen—a product, a landmark, or text—you no longer need to rely solely on the current Google app-powered Circle to Search function. Instead, you can pull up the Gemini overlay, then draw a circle or scribble around the content you want to investigate.
Once you highlight the area, the content is immediately sent to Gemini, ready for your query. Whether you want to know “Where can I buy this jacket?” or “translate this text,” the powerful AI is ready to respond. Using Gemini as the “engine” for Circle to Search offers some additional benefits, such as direct access to the Nano Banana tool from the floating overlay and more conversational queries.
Integration as a strategy
With this integration, Google is aiming to make Gemini the central intelligence layer across Android. Why have two tools when one can manage both the instant visual search and the complex conversational AI?
This new on-screen feature doesn’t yet include the “camera view” feature from Gemini Live. So, you still can’t point your phone at the real world to ask questions. However, it still improves how users interact with content already displayed on their device. For anyone who enjoys quickly researching items spotted in a social media feed or a game, this feature is really convenient.
Keep an eye on your device over the coming weeks. Although the rollout is not yet widespread, reports confirm this powerful new searching capability is landing on devices now.
