When the Xiaomi 15 Ultra was announced, it was about 5 months after the Xiaomi 15 was launched. Given that the Xiaomi 17 series has been announced, when will we see the Xiaomi 17 Ultra? Could it be in early 2026? Turns out we might not have to wait that long as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra could see an early launch.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra could see an early launch
According to a post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, they claim that Xiaomi could launch the Xiaomi 17 Ultra slightly early than expected. Instead of waiting until February 2026, the phone could arrive in December 2025. However, do note that the launch seems to be China-only, at least for now.
This means that international customers who want to get their hands on the phone might need to wait until 2026. However, its early launch means that we get a better idea of what to expect, giving us more time to consider. Also, since other companies like Samsung are expected to debut their flagships in the early part of the year, Xiaomi’s early launch will give them more time in the spotlight, instead of trying to fight Samsung for it.
So, what can we expect?
In terms of hardware, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra won’t be too different from the other phones in the lineup. For starters, it will use the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 chipset. This means in terms of performance, it should be more or less on par.
However, the cameras are where the differences lie. According to the latest rumors, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra could sport the largest camera sensor found on a smartphone. That’s an interesting rumor because in the past, Xiaomi worked with Sony to include 1-inch sensors in its phone. Back then, it was unheard of as 1-inch sensors were typically reserved for dedicated cameras, not phones. If Xiaomi manages to cram a larger sensor, it could be borderline revolutionary.
To accommodate the larger sensor, Xiaomi is also rumored to ditch the use of the rear display. We can’t say we’ll miss it. For the most part, the rear display feels novel and unnecessary. We’d rather give that up for a larger battery, or in this case, a larger camera sensor.
